Anadama Bread
This is a great bread for sandwiches and toasting! When I'm on break from teaching, I take sandwiches for lunch and this is a perennial favorite for my lunches.
There are various stories about where it comes from, but they all have this in common. A man's wife (often named Anna in the stories--hence anadama or "Anna damn her" with a yankee accent) left him, and the only thing he had to eat when he found out was some cold corn mush with molasses in it. He added this mush into a bread and a hero was born.
It's a basic white dough, but it has additions of molasses (which give some color, sweetness, and some moistness) along with some coarse grained cornmeal (I use polenta) for some texture.
Sold as a 1 1/2 pound loaf. I can slice it thick or thin for you for an extra 50 cents if you'd like. Just let me know when you order.
